Unicorn Poop

While not an original idea, this is one that I love. The cookies are fairly standard sugar cookies, but have the added bonus of delighting kids and grossing out parents. They are, however, fun for everyone to make. They are a staple for any magical pantry, and variations are only limited to imagination. Try making some for unicorns, dragons, phoenixes, and any other mythical creatures you can think of, then be sure to share your photos!

Mythical Creature Poop

Prep: 30 min.  *  Chilling: 1 hour  *  Baking: ~10-15 min

Makes a variable number of poos

  • ¾ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt

  • Dragees (those little sugar balls, in silver, pearl, or other colors)
  • Edible glitter gel
  • Sprinkles
  • Paint brush
  • Food coloring

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar, followed by the eggs and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Separate into several small bowls and mix in colors. At least 3 colors is best, but more add variety. For example, unicorns might have rainbow colored poop, while dragons might have shades of green; use your imagination! Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into long ropes. Combine several colors into one long, thick rope, and twist. This must be done carefully

Preheat oven to 400° F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. On a baking sheet, gently arrange the dough into poo shapes, being careful not to break up the spirals of dough. Try different shapes for different creatures.

Bake. Push in the dragees as soon as the cookies come out of the oven, making sure to push them at least halfway in so they don’t roll out. Brush with glitter gel, then add a few well placed sprinkles.

  1. I have too say this post made me laugh. Simply because my Grandmother, bless her, she makes cookies that look just like the above (top) photograph. But cuts the sugar in half saying “we don’t need it anyway” (basically making them taste like “poo”). She does makes these cookies for different holidays – just adjusting the colours per occasion. Thanks for posting! Very cute 🙂 I will have to make these whimsical poo cookies myself one day, but will all the sugar.
